Guwahati, January 16: The BJP has allegedly hatched a conspiracy to delete the votes of more than 70 people by falsely declaring living voters as deceased through Form 7 issued by the Election Commission at Polling Station No. 133 in the Kumalia area of the Biswanath Assembly constituency. This serious allegation was raised today by Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress President Mira Borthakur at a press conference held at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.

Borthakur alleged that BJP leader Jiten Saikia and a BJP supporter with the surname Lama have attempted to delete the votes of hundreds of people in the Biswanath constituency by falsely claiming them to be dead. During the press conference, she displayed 79 Form 7 applications related to Polling Station No. 133, demonstrating how living voters were fraudulently shown as deceased.

She further pointed out that a majority of the people whose names were listed as dead are Muslim Indian citizens. Many of them have been exercising their voting rights for years, and several are even young voters around 30 years of age.

Accusing the BJP government of borrowing heavily every month only to beat drums of propaganda and divert public attention from real issues, Mira Borthakur said that the days of Himanta Biswa Sarma are numbered and that the next government in Assam will be formed under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi. She added that under the pretext of protecting “jati, mati, bheti” (identity, land and hearth), the BJP-led government has deceived even indigenous Assamese people with false promises of granting Scheduled Tribe status.

Borthakur alleged that the BJP is trying to replicate the Bihar–Haryana model in Assam by forming a government with the help of “tenant voters.” She also stated that many BJP leaders and workers, distressed by the oppression and corruption under Himanta Biswa Sarma, are in constant touch with the Congress to join the party. According to her, it is precisely because the government’s report card is so poor that the BJP is now trying to use the Election Commission to retain power. She asserted that the people of Assam will not give Himanta Biswa Sarma that opportunity and that this time all sections of society and organisations are united against the BJP, aspiring to see Gaurav Gogoi as the next Chief Minister. She also claimed that credible pre-election surveys indicate a clear trend in favour of Gaurav Gogoi becoming Chief Minister.

Speaking at the same press conference, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee Media and Communication Department Chairman Bedabrat Bora said that despite Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s tall claims of providing jobs to one lakh unemployed youths every year, educated Assamese youths are being forced to seek employment outside the state and are even losing their lives in the process.

He cited the case of 30-year-old Kailash Nath from Bamunarbari village in Jamugurihat, Sonitpur district, who had gone outside Assam for work and was attacked by miscreants while returning home during Bihu, ultimately succumbing to his injuries. Bora stated that the youth’s sister had received repeated phone calls threatening his life, and his body was later recovered in Jharkhand.

Bora further alleged that although many youths from Assam have met tragic ends while seeking jobs outside the state, the so-called “double engine” government remains indifferent and has failed to formulate any concrete policy to address the issue. He urged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take responsibility for the family of the deceased youth from Jamugurihat, stating that the inability to ensure the safety of Assamese youths within the same country reflects the utter failure of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government.

APCC General Secretary Udit Bhanu Das and State Coordinator of the Media Department Gopal Sharma were also present at the press conference.
