▪️ Zonal Party Conventions to be held at six locations across the state from January 21 to January 28
▪️ Observers D.K. Shivakumar, Bhupesh Baghel and Bandhu Tirkey to arrive to sound the poll bugle

Guwahati, 19 January: As part of preparations to strengthen organisational structure and fine-tune election strategy for the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections, three special observers appointed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for election management in Assam will hold a series of important meetings at six locations across the state from January 21. In this regard, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has issued an important directive to organise Zonal Party Conventions for District Congress Committees, Block Congress Committees, Mandal Congress Committees and Booth Committees. These Zonal Party Conventions will be held as per the instructions of AICC General Secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh and APCC President Gaurav Gogoi.

According to the directive, the Zonal Party Conventions will be organised in phases at different locations across the state from January 21 to January 28. On January 21, a Zonal Party Convention will be held at Howraghat covering the districts of East Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Hojai and Nagaon. On January 22, a Zonal Party Convention will be organised at Moran for the districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Golaghat and Jorhat. On January 23, a Zonal Party Convention will be held at Bihpuria covering Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath and Majuli districts. On January 24, a Zonal Party Convention will take place at Kamalpur for Kamrup (Rural), Kamrup (Metro), Nalbari, Darrang, Udalguri, Sonitpur and Tamulpur districts. Thereafter, on January 27, a Zonal Party Convention will be organised at Bongaigaon covering Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Goalpara, Dhubri, Mankachar, Bajali, Kokrajhar, Chirang and Baksa districts. Finally, on January 28, a Zonal Party Convention will be held at Katigorah covering Silchar, Sribhumi (Karimganj) and Hailakandi districts.

Several senior leaders of the All India Congress Committee and the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee are expected to be present at these Zonal Party Conventions. Prominent among them are AICC General Secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, AICC Secretaries in charge of Assam Prithviraj Sathe, Vikash Upadhyay and Manoj Chauhan, senior Congress leader Bandhu Tirkey, APCC President Gaurav Gogoi, Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia, MP Pradyut Bordoloi, MP Rakibul Hussain, former APCC Presidents Bhupen Kumar Borah and Ripun Borah, among others.

Through the directive, the APCC has appealed to all district, block and mandal-level presidents, office-bearers and party workers to ensure full participation and active cooperation in making the Zonal Party Conventions successful. APCC General Secretary (Organisation) Bipul Gogoi has also instructed all concerned District Congress Committee presidents and leaders to take necessary steps for the smooth and successful conduct of these conventions.

It may be mentioned that tomorrow, January 20, AICC leaders in charge of Assam will arrive in Guwahati and will address a press conference at 4 pm. The press conference will be held at the Manabendra Sarma Complex, Last Gate, Dispur.
